Academics

There are six colleges that make up Eolas University. Each college is a department broken down into smaller departments, or schools as they're frequently referred to. Each College has it's own Dean and advisers, and all classes are taught on the main campus. Aside from their specific course work each student is expected to take a few general education classes to "round out" their education (most students choose to get these done with in their first two years).

Dean: Susan Bones
Geffory Buttermere College of Medicine
Named after the former Chief of Staff and Hospital Operations at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. This College is split into two schools, one for Medi-Wizards and one for Healers.

Requirements and Specifications:

Medi-Wizards:A minimum of four N.E.W.Ts with nothing short of "Exceeds Expectations" in Potions, Charms, Transfiguration, and Herbology. School work includes but is not limited to advanced Potions, Transfiguration, Herbology, and Charms lectures and labs; as well as two courses on basic and advanced muggle first aid, and oblivitaion. Since the Medi-Wizards are like the paramedics of the wizarding world, they'll also need to show a competency in keeping calm under pressure, and their last semester will be spent doing both advanced course work as well as internship.

Healers: After two letters of recommendation, an interview, and receiving a minimum of five N.E.W.T.s with nothing under "Exceeded Expectations" (Herbology, Potions, Transfiguration, and Charms are mandatory), Healers are allowed into the program. Classes include Medicinal Potions, Herbology, Anatomy/Physiology, Chrams, Transfiguration, basic muggle medicine practices (such as stitches, setting broken bones, etc.) taking the forms of both lecture and labs. The first year is designed to be the hardest in order to weed out those who cannot handle it. At no time are they to work with patience during the first year or second year. In their third year they chose their specialty field (Spell Damage, Artifact Accidents, Creature-Induced Injuries, Magical Bugs, Potion and Plant Poisoning, Emergency Room, or Psychology) and doing subject specific course work. Their last year is spent split between their final course work and an internship in their field area at St. Mungo's with a Senior Healer. The internship is the last semester and will be split between 3 days working with a Senior Healer and 2 days in the class room finishing up their course work.

Dean: Barry Monteith
MacTavish College of Law Enforcement
Named for Jermey MacTavish the former Head of Department of Magical Law Enforcement, the College of Law Enforcement is split into two schools, one for Hit Wizards and one for Aurors.

Requirements and Specifications:

Hit Wizards: A minimum three N.E.W.T.s (Charms, Transfiguration and DADA strongly recommended), pass the criminal background check, and pass an interview they are admitted to the School. Since Hit Wizards are basically every day police men their course work is a little more general than the Aurors, but they do over lap at times, especially at the beginning. Their work includes advanced Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms and Transfiguration, Magical Law, Profiling, Obliveration, Dealing with Aurors (and Ego's of), as well as Stealth and Tracking, and some basic healing. Their final semester is spent shadowing a Senior Hit Wizard in the field 3 days a week and 2 days a week finishing up their courses.

Aurors: With a very small number of applicants accepted a year, and an already established program the expectations for the candidates is extremely hard. A minimum of five N.E.W.T. scores (DADA, Potions, Transfiguration, and Charms are highly recommended), two letters of recommendation, pass a criminal background check, and a psychological evaluation will be required before entrance into this School. Course work includes practical and theoretical practices of Concealment and Disguise, Stealth, Tracking, The History of Dark Magic, Magical Law, Practical Defense, basic Healing and Interrogation. Their last year they will pick a specialty field in the fall, and in the spring they will not only shadow a Senior Auror (3 days with the Senior Auror 2 days working one on one with a Professor in their specialty area) but they will also face a Panel at the end of the year which is is an interview, a review of everything they've done, and pop quiz rolled all into one.

Dean: Percy Weasley
Goodfellow College of Magical Law
Named after Kenneth Goodfellow who once was the Head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation, this college starts out as one program and then in the last two years students may pick a specialty field. Some of these fields include, Civil Law, International Law, Medical Law, Paton Law, Industry Law, etc. Classes include (but not limited to) History of Magical law, International Law, Administration Law, The Wizengamot, Analytical Methods for Lawyers, Trial Advocacy Workshop, International Human Rights, and the GCoML also offers an array of Clinics every semester for the upper classmen.

Before their final year it is expected that the students in this college complete at least one internship during the summer holidays. These internships can take a wide verity of forms depending on the student's area of interest. Internships must be approved by their adviser before they begin their internship.

Dean: Dorian Brand
Finch-Fletchley College of Business
Named simply for the man that put up the money to start the FFCoB, the college offers a wide verities for those students wishing to go into the Business world. Much like the business world a wide verity of areas are offered, such as Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Accountancy, Marketing, Economics, International Business Standards, and Personal Financial Planning. Classes tend to overlap and have a wide verity of course work. Depending on the program students maybe be expected to pass a maths exam in order to be accepted into the program.

Classes are varied and to the point, the curriculum offers every business student at least some exposure to all aspects of the business world. The philosophy behind this is that students of the FFCoB leave with a well rounded education and be able to peruse any and all interests in this field.

Dean: Oberon Tolipan
College of Arts
The College of Arts represents one of the two biggest Colleges on campus. It offers a very large verity of majors, each with its own unique curricula. Some areas of studies include (but not limited to) History of Magic, Muggle Studies, Divination, Art, Astronomy, Music, Literature, and a program for future Unspeakables.

Requirements and Specifications:

History/Literature/Muggle Studies:

Varied in their respective curricula each discipline, each one offers an array of classes and challenges. History of Magic offers classes both on magical history but also a few courses on muggle history for students to be able to understand how the two worlds intertwine. Literature explores a the wide spectrum of wizarding literature and only occasionally dipping into muggle literature for comparison. Muggle Studies offers possibly the widest verity of classes that range from Muggles and Electricity and Automotive Repair to British Muggle Government and Religion.

Fine Arts: The Fine Arts program includes Music (performance and theory), Art (history and an array of art classes such as painting, sculpting, metal works, etc.), Astronomy and Divination. In these curricula students must take both practical and theory classes and display competency in both in order to complete schooling.

Unspeakable Program: Like the Aurors only the best and brightest will be accepted into this program. Each student must have reached a minimum of five N.E.W.T.s (with nothing under "Exceeds Expectations") in Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Astronomy, Charms, and History of Magic, and competent grades in Potions and Transfiguration would also make them a strong candidate for this program. In this program they will study advanced theoretical work in these core classes, as well as even expand into Divination if the student shows enough promise. The last year of the students academic career will be split between coursework and an internship at the Department of Mysteries.

Department of Education: This department is for those who wish to teach young children before they go off to Hogwarts. This is one of the smaller departments, only because it's one of the newer ones. Teachers who successfully complete this program will be licensed to teach ages 4-10 the basics of reading, writing, maths and other such basic material. Very little to no magic will be taught to these young children for various legal reasons. Teachers will teach small number of children whose parents do not choose to home school themselves or have their children for one reason or another go off to muggle schools. They won't teach in traditional schools, but facilities around the United Kingdom and Ireland will be set up for the teachers. Their last semester will be an internship working in one of these facilities. Course work includes, but not limited, early childhood development, and classes on how to teach maths, reading, writing, and similar subjects.

Dean: Lucretia Withers
College of Sciences
The College of Science represents represents one of the two biggest Colleges on campus. It offers a very large verity of majors, each with its own unique curricula. Some areas of studies include (but not limited to) Magical Zoology, Herbology and Botany, Arithamncy, Ancient Runes, Potions, Magical Architecture, and houses the Curse Breaker program as well.

Requirements and Specifications:

Potions/Herbology and Botany/Arithamncy/Ancient Runes: Students who study in these fields will do advanced work in both practical and theoretical classes. Those who study and complete their course work in Potions will become a licensed Potions Master.

Magical Zoology In the Zoology field students will be taking a majority of specific Care of Magical Creature classes. Some will enter a program to become a Veterinarian of magical creatures, others will go on to be Naturalists, or Dragon Tamers. Every student will be expected to have hands on experience with magical animals, and in some cases internships will be required (Veterinarians), and in others classes will take week long trips to reserves to work and observes will be required (Dragon Tamers).

Duke School of Engineering:
There are several areas of focus in this school, Architecture being the most popular. Architects will study advanced Transfiguration, Charms (that will be related to not only structures of the buildings but concealment and muggle repelling), as well as Maths and Civil Engineering. Other areas of study include Agricultural, Electrical (as all new public buildings now run "on that new fangled thing"), Environmental, Transportational (for those who are really just that interested in the floo network, and future broom makers.), and Wand Making.

Curse Breaking Program: It takes at four N.E.W.T.s in Transfiguration, Ancient Runes or Arithmancy, DADA and Charms in order to get into this program. Course work includes advanced Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and working through advanced Runes and Arithmanc puzzles. They will also take basic International Magical Law, International Relations classes, as well as working with the history and myth of curse breaking. The summer before their last year will be spent abroad based on what is available at the time. The places can range from Madagascar, Egypt, China, Russia, Mexico, Brazil, etc; each student will most likely have a choice between two or three options, but this is not a given.
